Early look at possible Colts draft targets

Well, I know it's way early, but I though I would take a look at potential ways the Colts could go in the draft.

Most mock drafts out there have the Colts taking Peria Jerry, DT out of Ole Miss in the first round, which would be ok.  The Colts have struggled mightily against the run for years, and new defensive coordinator Larry Coyer will likely want to add some significant bulk at DT to help this.  However, I personally don't believe there is that much difference, talentwise, between Jerry and some other DT's projected as 2nd and 3rd rounders.  Guys like Ziggy Hood, Sen'Derrick Marks, and Fili Moala are all guys who I think would be great fits for the Colts at DT, and are all guys who are taken in the late second to late third rounds in most mock drafts I've seen.

If the Colts were to go that route and try to grab one or maybe even two of those guys in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, my guess is that WR would be the position they addressed in the first round, because Marvin Harrison (if he doesn't retire) is looking an awful lot like a cap casulty, sadly.  One mock draft I saw really intreagued me as it had the Colts passing up on Jerry and selecting Percy Harvin, WR out of Florida, which I think would be great!  What better way to replace the playmaking of Marvin than with the explosiveness of Harvin?  His versitility (he can play both WR and RB) would help spice up an offense that became all too predictable last season.  Plus he would help to shore up our severly lacking kick return department.

Finally, I have to put in my plug (as most regular Colt's board posters know) about Nate Swift out of Nebraska.  I finally found a good profile of him, here it is, enjoy:  http://cdsdraft.com/profile.php?id=2485

Thanks for reading!

Greatest Colt's O-Linemen

Alright, the votes are tallied for WR and i guess it was a very easy descion:  Marvin Harrison - 4, Raymond Barry - 3, Reggie Wayne - 1.  I couldn't decide how to split up the votes from "strange" on my very first post, as he listed Raymond and Marvin at WR1 and Reggie Wayne and Jimmy Orr at WR2 (in that order), so i just didn't count any of them, because i wasn't sure if the two at WR1 were the ones he listed as greatest, or whether it was the first listed at WR1 and the first listed at WR2.

anyways, i kind of want to stay with offense, so lets do OL this week.  i'm not sure we should just do the 5 best O-Linemen in general, but split them up into C, G, and T.  i guess what i'm saying is the best Center, and two best guards (left or right), and the two best tackles (left or right).

happy voting!

RULES: The way it works is that every Monday, we will vote for the Greatest Colts player at a certain position. The following Monday, I will tally the votes and mark the winner(s) on the below list. In the event of a tie, I will break it using my own humble opinion, because this is my blog and I make the rules haha. Rate players based only on their time with the Colts. For instance, when voting for RB, ignore Marshall Faulk's years in St. Louis, or Edgerrin James's time in Arizona. Feel free/encouraged to look all the way back to the Baltimore Colts. Debate is also encouraged, and if you are changing you vote later in the week, be sure to note this.

Greatest Wide Recievers in Colts History!

Well, the votes for CB have been tallied, and the results stand as follows:  Eugene Daniel - 3, Bobby Boyd - 2, Ray Buchanon - 2, Nick Harper - 1, Tom Curtis - 1, and Jim Dunkin - 1.  Again, there is a tie for the second spot, so I must bust out my "personal wisdom" to break the tie.  This one was a pretty quick decision for me, as Bobby Boyd is the franchise leader in INT's and Ray Buchanon only played 4 years with the ColtsAs such, the winners are Eugene Daniel and Bobby Boyd!

Alright, well lets move over to the offensive side of the ball and make things a little more interesting and go with Wide Receiver.  I expect this will be a tough one, seeing as the Colts have two of the best WR's in recent years in Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, but have also had many, many great Wideouts on their past teams (Bill Brooks and Hall of Famer Raymond Berry to name a few).

All-Time Colts Team

Alright, well I was messing around on CBS looking at random things, and I saw this blog for the Greatest NFL Team Ever, and thought we should do the same thing for the Colts.

The way it works is that every Monday, we will vote for the Greatest Colts player at a certain position. The following Monday, I will tally the votes and mark the winner(s) on the below list. In the event of a tie, I will break it using my own humble opinion, because this is my blog and I make the rules haha. Rate players based only on their time with the Colts. We will start with the All Time Colts Safeties. Vote for two, as the top two will be chosen. There is no need to differenciate between SS and FS for this blog.
